I love AK and all his work, I love what he has done for the community and realize how much AE and motion graphics has grown just because of him, but I hate people saying AK is THE BEST VFX artist ever on planet earth! VFX is way too complex to be handled by a generalist. I don't want to start a fight, it's not my goal nor purpose. it's not my native think my comment was quit thoughtful and positive. Thank you for everything you've done and keep doing. I basically started with your tutorials some (3-4) years ago. Keep up the good work and remember, I earn my living out of GFX and VFX mainly because of you. Unless you have some programming / engineering background, it's really difficult to wrap yourself around it. Also, you could achieve some better looking fractures, but that's just a tool way too expensive and way too technical for most of the people.

Also this short is not exactly Life of Pi, it's just some awesome experiment he's been doing, playing with FumeFX, rayfire, 3dsmax, AE.Īs I was saying, I'd much rather do this in Houdini, which is 100% procedural, requires not third-party plugins for this, plus you can render DEEP exr2.0 which make compositing this in Nuke a breeze. I'm pretty sure his aim is not to compete with ILM (or Sony, or DD, or Weta) because that's really not the case. it's just more difficult to say, since this is a job that requires more specialized guys rather than one generalist. Kramer here is top notch in motion graphics. Who's the best director? Is it Kubrik? Is it Cameron? Is it Lucas? Is it Cuaron? It's silly to state. I mean, c'mon, it's simply groundbreaking stuff if you're into GFX. Regarding Andrew - I'd just say he's one of the best motion graphics artists out there and certainly ahead of his time, let's say, just for putting up Element with his programming crew. I'd add some crazy good features like: A) projections (much easier than in AE - especially since you can project on non-planar surfaces - like any OBJ file) B) point clouds C) deep compositing etc. Compositing-wise, Nuke has more features, better management and allows you to stay more organized. No-one said Nuke is better than AE, nor AE is better than Nuke. I still use AE more than I use nuke since most of my clients are asking motion graphics and only a small part contact me for small VFX tasks.
